Corporate overview

Rio Tinto plc and Rio Tinto Limited established a dual listed companies structure in December 1995. As a result, the two companies are managed as a single economic unit, even though both companies continue to be separate legal entities with separate share listings and share registrars.

The principal market for Rio Tinto plc shares is the London Stock Exchange. In addition to its primary listing, Rio Tinto plc shares are also traded on Euronext and the New York Stock Exchange as ADRs.

Rio Tinto Limited shares are listed on the Australian Securities Exchange and the New Zealand Stock Exchange. Although not listed, Rio Tinto Limited shares are also traded on the London Stock Exchange.

The Rio Tinto plc ADR facility is administered by JPMorgan Chase Bank NA.

As at 31 December 2007, there were 997,241,117 shares of Rio Tinto plc in issue, and 285,743,423 "free floating" shares of Rio Tinto Ltd in issue.
